He was the son of Thomas Bowler a general dealer’s assistant, born 1857 in Barlestone, Leics., and his wife Clara, born 1858 in Loughborough, Leics. Sidney Alfred was born in 1885 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were Thomas B., born 1881 in Hinckley, Leics., and Albert Edward, born 1884 in Loughborough, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 27, Shakespeare Street, Loughborough, Leics. In March 1901 Sidney was employed as an haberdashery shop assistant and was residing in the family home at 14, Victoria Street, Loughborough, Leics., together with his father, now a haberdashery shopkeeper, his mother and siblings, Thomas, Albert and Edna Clara, born 1898 in Loughborough, Leics., also residing with the family was his paternal cousin, Sarah Ann Bowler, born 1876 in Southwell, Notts. In April 1911 Sidney was employed as an assistant fishmonger and was residing in the family home at 11, Garton Road, Loughborough, Leics., together with his father, now a stores general dealer, his mother and siblings, Albert, Edna and Dorothy, born 1902 in Loughborough, Leics., and also residing with the family was his paternal cousin Sarah. In the October, November, December quarter of 1915 in the Loughborough, Leics., registration district, Sidney married Lily Smith.
