He was the son of William Biddles a Farm Labourer, born 1847 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Emily, born 1851 in Loughborough, Leics. Alfred was born in 1889 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were William, born 1873, John, born 1874 and Maria, born 1881, all his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 13, Rushes, Loughborough, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints. In March 1901 Alfred was residing at 98, Leopold Street, Loughborough, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Peter, being the family home of his uncle Henry Hopewell, born 1858 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Alice M., born 1867 in Loughborough, Leics., together with their children, Harry, born 1882, George E., born 1884 and Sidney, born 1891, all the children were born in Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Alfred was employed as an Engineer Fitter and was residing at 98, Leopold Street, Loughborough, Leics., being the home of his uncle and aunt together with their son Sidney. The War Diary for today records. The 8th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT relieved the 6th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT in the trenches, leaving billets in BEILES at 3.00am. Relief complete 5.20am. Situation very quiet all day.
