He was the son of George Angrave a Framework Knitter, born 1849 in Loughborough, Leicestershire and his wife Sarah, born 1843 in Sileby, Leicestershire. Edwin was born in 1880 in Nanpantan, Leicestershire, his siblings were Ernest, born 1873, Alfred, born 1874 and George Charles, born 1883, all his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, in April 1891 the family home was at Forest Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire. In April 1911 Edwin was employed as a Gardener and was residing as a boarder at Main Street, Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire. The War Diary for today records. ETRICOURT. Battn rested all the morning and men started to clean up as far as possible. Warning order received that Brigade would probably move east to relieve 6th Division at night. This subsequently cancelled and order substituted to move west to rest. 5.30pm. Battn paraded and marched across canal to original British front line prior to the attack on the HINDENBURG LINE, arriving at dusk, only to find that 1st Battn WEST YORKSHIRE REGT whose trench and shelters we were to occupy were not moving out. Battn accordingly dug themselves in and was soon very comfortable.
