He was the son of Herbert Chapman a plasterer’s labourer, born 1871 in Mountsorrel, Leics., and his wife Kate, born 1871 in Warwick. Cecil was born in 1893 in Anstey, Leics., his siblings were, Beatrice M., born 1895, Katie May, born 1899 and Jane A. Elizabeth, born 1901, the latter three siblings were all born in Mountsorrel, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at The Cottage, High Street, Quorn, Leics. In April 1911 Cecil was employed as an elastic web trade worker and was residing in the family home at Church Lane, Quorn, Leics., together with his widowed father, now a bricklayer’s labourer and his siblings, Beatrice, Katie, Elizabeth, Herbert, born 1907 and Jack, born 1910, the latter two siblings were both born in Quorn, Leics.
