He was the son of John Bowler a pottery worker, born 1854 in Sileby, Leics., and his wife Hannah, born 1849 in Shepshed, Leics. Albert Ernest was born in 1880 in Shepshed, Leics., his siblings were Alfred, born 1872, Thomas, born 1874, Gertrude, born 1883, Ada, born 1885 and Harold, born 1888, all his siblings were born in Shepshed, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 34, Belper Street, Leicester. In March 1901 Albert was employed as an engine cleaner and was residing as a boarder at 153, Gadsby Street, Attleborough, Nuneaton, Warwks. In April 1911 Albert was employed as a railway porter and was residing in the family home at 123, Brandon Street, Leicester, together with his widowed mother and brother, Harold and his sister in law Florence, born 1888 in Leicester and his nephew Eric, born 1911 in Leicester. The War Diary for the events of the 27th to the 29th September 1916 records. GUEDECOURT. Battalion remained in same position. Nothing of importance occurred during this period. 48 casualties were sustained through shell fire.
