He was the son of Charles and Louisa Tyler. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed at Oakham, he was also a well known local cricketer. He was one of four brothers who joined the Forces, and after enlistment and training he embarked for France in August 1916, and was in the “thick of it” about Ypres in May 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery, going out several times under shell fire to bring in wounded men. He died in an Australian Ambulance Station from the wounds he received in action near Ypres. His younger brother Frank Raymond also died.
