He was the son of Charles Bloodworth an agricultural labourer, born 1859 in Ufford, Northants., and his wife Fanny, born 1860 in Ailsworth, Northants. Bertie was born in 1893 in Ufford, Northants., his siblings were, Esther, born 1882, Charles, born 1886, Arthur Ernest, born 1887, Rose, born 1889, Thomas William, born 1891, Herbert, born 1896 and Edwin, born 1899, all his siblings were born in Ufford, Northants., in March 1901 the family home was at Ufford, Northants., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Ufford, St. Andrew. In April 1911 Bertie was employed as a domestic groom and was residing at 8, Cottage, Ufford, Northants., this being the home of his widowed maternal grandmother, Kezia Hunt, born 1831 in Ufford, Northants, also residing in the family home was his brother’s Thomas, and Arthur and his wife Florence, born 1886 in Stonebroom, Derbys and their son Reginald Allen, born 1910 in Matlock Bath, Derbys. At the beginning of April 1918 the Leicestershire Yeomanry was absorbed by Regiments in the 3rd Brigade, and therefore ceased to exist, it must therefore be assumed that Bertie could possibly have been serving with the 5th Lancers at the time of his death.
