He was the son of George Bennett a Farm Yardman, born 1862 in Brandon, Suffolk and his wife Mary, born 1866 in Brandon, Suffolk. George William was born in 1891 in Brandon, Suffolk, his siblings were, Annie, born 1888, Julia, born 1889, Percy, born 1893 and Frederick James, born 1895, the latter four siblings were all born in Brandon, Suffolk, Lilian, born 1897 in Oxborough, Norfolk and Baden, born 1901 in Beachamwell, Norfolk, in March 1901 the family home was at 1, Beachamwell, Norfolk, in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Beachamwell, St. Mary. In April 1911 George was employed as a Farm Labourer and was residing in the family home at Burley on the Hill, Rutland together with his parents and siblings, Frederick, Lilian, Baden, Reginald, born 1903 in Beachamwell, Norfolk and Hilda, born 1907 in West Walton, Norfolk. George’s parents later moved to reside at 19, Barholm, Stamford, Lincs., George later married and became the husband of L. Bennett. On Friday January 19th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL CASUALTIES” – DIED OF WOUNDS – SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT. Bennett. 24400 Lance-Corpl. G. W. (Oakham). He was killed by a shell fragment during the Battle of the Somme.
