He was the grand son of William Barnacle an Agricultural Labourer, born 1843 in Walcote, Leicestershire and his wife Emma Jane, born 1843 in Kimcote cum Walton, Leicestershire. George Henry was a Schoolboy and was born in 1897 in Leicester, he had a sibling, Margaret born 1892 in Leicester. In March 1901 he was residing with his grand parents in the family home at the Congregational Chapel, Misterton, Leicestershire. In April 1911 George was employed as a Hosiery Factory Packer and was residing with his two grand parents in the family home at Walcote, Leicestershire.
