He was the son of Joseph George Ordish a butler, born 1849 in Normanton, Yorks., and his wife Kathleen Ordish (nee White), born 1850 in St. John’s Wood, Middx. Joseph White Ordish was born in 1882 in Micklethwaite, Wetherby, Yorks., his siblings were, Kathleen A., born 1879 in Micklethwaite, Wetherby, Yorks., and Thomas G., born 1890 in Hampstead, Middx., in April 1891 the family home was at 2, Craven Street, Melton Mowbray, Leics. In March 1901 Joseph was employed as an assistant in an ironmonger’s shop and was residing as a boarder at 33, Milton Road, Swindon, Wilts. On Friday October 5th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “MELTON AND THE WAR” – MELTON SOLDIER’S KILLED. Yesterday Mrs J. G. Ordish, Thorpe Road, Melton Mowbray, received a letter from an officer informing her that her eldest son, Lance-Corpl. J. W. Ordish, of the Durham Light Infantry, was instantly killed on the 21st ult. Deceased who was 35 years of age, served his apprenticeship at Messrs. Sharman and Ladbury’s and was for 15 years in the employ of Messrs. Vipan and Headley, Leicester, before joining up about two years ago.
