Alfred was living in Melton Mowbray and enroled with the 7th Linconshire defence regiment on the 22/10/1940. He served in the Royal Artillery and was posted to the 924 Defence Battery on the 29/11/1940. He was subsequently posted with the 78 Field Regiment on 12/03/1941 and was killed in action in Italy on 06/02/1944.
He is buried in Anzio war cemetery, Italy, plot IV, Row L, grave no. 1.
