John Edward Cecil Hardy was the son of Robert Day Hardy and Agnes Ann Hardy, and the husband of Doris Hardy, of Kelmarsh, Northants. He was baptised on the 6th October 1912; the Market Harborough School Magazine of 1928 shows that he gained his school certificate at the same time as his fellow alumnus and comrade FJA Harding.

He is buried next to Flying Officer Pilot Graeme Robert Eric Weir, also of 608 Sqdn, who died with him in the incident of 6/12/1944.
-----------
He was remembered by his family in the Market Harborough Advertiser on the 13th December 1946:
