He was the son of Ursah and Florence Thompson. The 1911 census records for 1, Upper Green Place, Great Bowden, Leics. Ursah Thompson, head of the family and married for 13 years, a Farm Labourer, born 1863 in Oxendon, Northants. and his wife Florence, born 1874 in Alderkirk, Lincs., also George, son, a Schoolboy, born 1899 in Leeds, Yorks., Arthur, son, a Schoolboy, born 1901 in Hunslet, Yorks., Ivy, daughter, born 1905, Harry, son born 1907 and Mabel, daughter, born 1910. The latter three children were all born in Great Bowden, Leics., additionally Harry Wilford, boarder and a Bricklayer's Labourer, born 1860 in Great Bowden, Leics.
