He was the son of James Charles Corston, a stud groom, born 1852 in Swaffham, Norfolk, and his wife Caroline Corston (nee Jebb), born 1858 in Tiffield, Northants. Sidney Charles was born in 1897 in Cheadle, Cheshire, his siblings were, Lily, born 1884. John, born 1886, William, born 1888, Ruth, born 1889, Thomas, born 1891, Agnes, born 1892, Robert, born 1894 and Charlotte, born 1896, all his siblings were born in Cheadle, Cheshire, in March 1901 the family home was at Renhold, Beds. In April 1911 Sidney was a schoolboy and was residing as a visitor at Manton, Rutland, this being the family home of William and Mary Ann Reeve. His parents were also residing in Manton, Rutland together with his siblings, John, a saddler and Charlotte. He embarked for France in early August 1915 and took part in the Battle of the Somme. On the morning of the 22nd October 1917 he took part in an attack on an important enemy position, and met his death by shell fire during a counter attack by the Germans the following day on the Passchendaele Ridge, Belgium.
