He was the son of Giles Sampson, a domestic butler, born 1849 in Church Knowle, Dorset and his wife Mary Ann Sampson (nee Talbot, married in the 4th quarter of 1875 in the Wareham, Dorset district), born 1851 in Kingston, Dorset. Richard Tom was born in the 1st quarter of 1890 in Charlton, Northants., his siblings were, Ethel Mary, a schoolgirl, born in the 4th quarter of 1881 in Bicester, Oxon, Albert John, a schoolboy, born in the 4th quarter of 1883 and Charles Talbot, a schoolboy, born in the 1st quarter of 1886, the latter two siblings were both born in Charlton, Northants., in April 1891 the family home was at Drury Lane, Sutton with Newbottle, Brackley, Northants. Richard’s mother died, aged 44 in the 4th quarter of 1895, in the Brackley, Northants., district. In March 1901 Richard was residing in the family home at The Square, Aynhoe, Brackley, Northants., together with his widowed father, a domestic butler and his siblings, Charles and Ethel. In April 1911 Richard was employed as a railway clerk and was residing as a boarder at New Street, Lutterworth, Leics. Richard was baptised on the 27th April 1890 in Newbottle, Northants. In the 2nd quarter of 1916, Richard married Florence E. Faulkner in the Lutterworth, Leics. district. Richard’s grave was located in 2005, his name appears on the Hollybrook Memorial where he was previously commemorated on panel 105, this will be removed when the panel is next replaced.
