He was the son of Walter Edwin Holland, a police sergeant, born 1863 in Great Wigston, Leics., and his wife Ada Dexter Holland (nee Broughton, married in the 1st quarter of 1891 in the Leicester district), born 1871 in Husbands Bosworth, Leics. Fred was born in the 3rd quarter of 1895 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were, Charles G., an office boy, born 1886 in Great Bowden, Leics., Florence, born 1888 in Tur Langton, Leics., John Warren, born 1894 and Walter Broughton, born 1898, the latter two siblings were both born in Loughborough, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 27, Hastings Street, Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Fred was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at The Police Station, Lutterworth, Leics., together with his father a police superintendent, his mother and siblings, Florence, an assistant teacher, John, a schoolboy, Walter, a schoolboy, William, born 1902, May Gertrude, born 1903 and Ada Dexter Broughton, born 1906, the latter three siblings were all born in Loughborough, Leics., also residing with the family was Fred’s cousin, Gladys Mary Broughton, born 1897 in Sibbertoft, Northants.
