He was the son of Francis Arthur and Annie Louisa Reynolds. The War Diary for today records that the Battalion were near Holnon. At 8.00am Brigade Operational Order number 306 received relative to the attack on morning of the 24th. Attack to be carried out by the 2nd Durham Light Infantry on the right (objective Selency). 1st West Yorkshire Regiment in centre (objective ground between Selency and Quadrilateral as far east as Chateau). 11th Essex Regiment on left (objective Quadrilateral). 1st l
Leicestershire Regiment to remain in present positions in reserve. HQ’s of the three attacking Battalions to move to Quarry on the night of the 23rd/24th. HQ’s 18th Infantry Brigade and 1st Leicestershire Regiment to remove to Railway Cutting X.17.b. 75.50 on the night of the 23rd/24th. Attack to be delivered in conjunction with the French on the right and 16th Infantry Brigade on the left, Zero hour 5.00am 24th instant. Several casualties sustained during the day, one shell causing 15 casualties in B Company. Commanding Officer in conference at HQ’s 18th Infantry Brigade. Enemy persistently and heavily shelled St. Quentin Wood and open ground between the Wood and Holnon throughout the afternoon. At 2.30pm 71st Infantry Brigade Operational Order number 358 receieved advising their relief by 18th Infantry Brigade prior to attack and our attachment to 18th Infantry Brigade as from 12.00 noon 23rd instant. B and C Company’s exchanged positions at dusk, HQ’s moved to X.17.b. 72.50 at 10.30pm. Casualties, other ranks B Company 3 killed, 14 wounded. C Company 5 wounded. Officers Lieutenant D. V. Webb M.C. wounded.
