He was the son of James Oliver Fison, born in the April quarter of 1845 in Stowmarket, Suffolk (son of Joseph Fison, 1819-1878 and Ann Ridley, 1815-1898) and his wife Lucy Maud Fison (nee Nash, married on the 2nd July 1889 in the Church of St. Mary & St. Clement, Clavering, Essex) born on the 6th November 1864 in Berden, Essex and baptised on the 7th January 1865 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden (daughter of Frederick Nash, 1820 and Sarah Eliza Hackett, 1833). James Frederick Lorimer was born on the 23rd June 1890 in Stutton, Suffolk and baptised on the 25th July 1890 in St. Peter’s Church, Stutton.
In April 1891 James was residing at The Vicarage, Starling Green, Clavering. Saffron Walden, Essex, this being the family home of his maternal grandparents, Frederick Gifford Nash, the Vicar of Clavering, born on the 30th June 1819 in Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire (son of Thomas Nash, 1775-1841 and Martha Searle, 1784-1845) and his wife Sarah Eliza Nash (nee Hackett), born on the 11th May 1832 in Barrow Hill Lodge, Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire (daughter of George Hackett, 1788-1852 and Phoebe Corden Thompson, 1789-1853), and their children, Catherine Laura, born 1861 and baptised on the 13th May 1861 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden, Lucy Maud Fison, born on the 6th November 1864 and baptised on the 7th January 1865 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden, Agnes Mildred, born 1868 and baptised on the 22nd July 1868 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden, Edith Mary, born 1870 and baptised on the 28th July 1870 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden and Frances Eva, born on the 22nd September 1872 and baptised on the 18th August 1873 in the Church of St. Nicholas, Berden, all the children were born in Berden, Essex.
In March 1901 James was absent from the family home at Stutton Hall, Stutton, Samford, Suffolk, residing there was his father, a chemical manufacturer and corn miller, his mother and siblings, Madeline Lucy, born on the 14th November 1891 and baptised on the 13th December 1891 in All Saint’s Church, Sproughton, Suffolk and Frank Guy Clavering, born on the 11th December 1892 and baptised on the 19th February 1893 in St. Peter’s Church, Stutton, the latter two siblings were both born in Sproughton, Florence Elizabeth Vere, born in the April quarter of 1894 and baptised on the 13th May 1894 in St. Peter’s Church, Stutton, Sylvia Mary, born on the 19th June 1895 and baptised on the 4th August 1895 in St. Peter’s Church, Stutton and John Reginald Gifford, born in the July quarter of 1896 and baptised on the 16th August 1896 in St. Peter’s Church, Stutton, the latter three siblings were all born in Stutton, meanwhile James was a pupil and residing as a boarder at Downsend School. Ashtead, Epsom, Surrey.
In April 1911 James was residing in the family home at Stutton Hall, Stutton, together with his father a chemical fertilizer manufacturer, his mother and sibling, Madeline.
On the 8th March 1917, James married Charlotte Patricia Hazel Elliott, in Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, Middlesex. Charlotte was born on the 5th January 1895 in Chislehurst, Kent and baptised in 1895 in Christ Church, Chislehurst (daughter of William Henry Wilson Elliott, 1864-1934 and Charlotte Elizabeth Priscilla Furber, 1858-1914). The family resided at Bluegates, Wherstead, Suffolk.
James’ Army enlistment documents were not researched, and as such all that is known of his military service is that he was commissioned into the Suffolk Regiment, and was posted as a 2nd Lieutenant to the 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, first entering the theatre of war in France on the 1st March 1915. During his service he was awarded the Military Cross and was also twice Mentioned in Dispatches. He attained the rank of Temporary Captain (Brigade Major). On a date not known during 1917, he was wounded and transferred to England, where he subsequently died from pneumonia on the 2nd November 1917. He was buried in St. Peter’s Churchyard, Stutton, Suffolk. He was awarded the 1914-15 STAR, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
