He was the son of George Henry Chambers a garden labourer, born 1863 in Croxton Kerrial, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1866 in Knipton, Leics. Thomas was born in 1892 in Knipton, his siblings were, William, born 1895, Arthur, born 1897, Robert, born 1900 and Annie, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Knipton, Leics., also residing with the family was his widowed maternal grandfather, Henry Coy an agricultural labourer, born 1830 in Knipton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Deven House, Knipton, Leics. In the April, May, June quarter of 1916, Thomas married Ellen Leaper in the Grantham, Lincolnshire marriage registration district.
