He was the son of Thomas Currall Quincey, a clerk and county court bailiff, born in the July quarter of 1850 in Wadenhoe, Northamptonshire and baptised on the 11th August 1850 in St. Michael & All Angel’s Church, Wadenhoe (son of Josiah Quincey, 1827-1917 and Mary Currall, 1823-1899) and his wife Emma Quincey (nee Pinfold, married on the 12th October 1876 in St. Botolph’s Church, Farnborough, Warwickshire), born in the July quarter of 1852 in Williamscote, Oxfordshire (daughter of William Pinfold, 1821-1904 and Anne Ward, 1827 of Shank Cottage, Farnborough, Warwickshire). Sydney Ward was born in the October quarter of 1883 in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire and baptised on the 27th February 1884 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth, his siblings were, William Pinfold, a schoolboy, born in the October quarter of 1878 in Northampton, Mary Elizabeth, a schoolgirl, born on the 26th March 1880 in Aylestone, Leicester, Lilian Kate, a schoolgirl, born on the 28th March 1882 and baptised on the 29th June 1882 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth, Ethel Maria, a schoolgirl, born on the 30th September 1885, Thomas Percival, a schoolboy, born in the April quarter of 1888 and baptised on the 30th April 1888 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth and Dennis Gilbert, born on the 25th April 1890 and baptised on the 1st June 1890 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth, the latter four siblings were all born in Market Bosworth, in April 1891 the family home was at Station Road, Market Bosworth.
In March 1901 Sydney was employed as a pupil teacher and was residing in the family home at Station Road, Market Bosworth, together with his father a county court bailiff, his mother and siblings, Lilian, Ethel, Thomas, Denis, John Stanley, born in the July quarter of 1893 and baptised on the 3rd September 1893 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth, Kenneth Gordon, born on the 25th March 1896 and baptised on the 3rd May 1896 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth and Arthur Raymond, born in the April quarter of 1900 and baptised on the 3rd June 1900 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth and who died aged 8 years in January 1909 and was interred on the 9th January in Market Bosworth, the latter three siblings were all born in Market Bosworth.
In April 1911 Sydney was absent from the family home at Station Road, Market Bosworth, residing there was his father, a county court clerk, his mother and siblings, Ethel, Thomas, an assistant bailiff, John, an assistant clerk and Kenneth, a schoolboy meanwhile Sydney was employed as an elementary school teacher and was residing as a boarder at 4, Eastleigh Road, Leicester.
On the 25th December 1912, Sydney married Annie Elizabeth Humphreys in All Saint’s Church, Wigston Magna, Leicestershire. Annie was born in the July quarter of 1883 in Coalville, Leicestershire and was baptised on the 26th August 1883 in the Church of St. John the Baptist, Hugglescote, Leicestershire (daughter of Charles Humphreys, 1856 and Mary Allen, 1853).
His younger brother John Stanley fell in action in France in September 1916.
FAMILY NOTE: Sydney also had a younger sibling, Elsie Emma, born in the October quarter of 1891 in Market Bosworth and baptised on the 6th December 1891 in St. Peter’s Church, Market Bosworth and who died aged 5 years in April 1897 and was interred on the 3rd April in Market Bosworth. His elder brother, William Pinfold, died aged 29 years, in February 1908 and was interred on the 18th February in Market Bosworth.
Sydney’s army service enlistment documents do not survive, therefore the currently available information pertaining to his military service has been obtained from the following sources: - WW1 Service Medal and Award Rolls, WW1 Medal Rolls Index Cards and WW1 Pension Ledgers and Index Cards.

On Saturday October 17th 1914, The Leicester Chronicle and Leicestershire Mercury published the following article under the heading. “COUNTY COURT CLERK’S FOUR SONS.” – Mr. T. C. Quincey, clerk of the Market Bosworth County Court, has three sons in Kitchener’s Force, and a fourth youth awaits orders. Mr. Quincey has been 33 years at the County Court Office, and congratulations have been extended to him on the “patriotism of the Quincey’s of historic Bosworth.”
On the 7th February 1921 Sydney, a schoolmaster died aged 37, in the Market Bosworth, Leicestershire district. Probate was granted to his widow on the 1st March in the sum of £294.19s.
