He was the son of John Chamberlain a gas works labourer, born 1857 in Burton Hastings, Warwks., and his wife Mary Ann, born 1858 in Halstead, Leics.. Alfred Edward was born in 1885 in Hinckley, Leics., his siblings were, Willie F., born 1877 and Elizabeth B., born 1879, the latter two siblings were born at Tilton on the Hill, Leics., Eliza Ann, born 1880, Lily Louisa, born 1887, Tom, born 1889 and Mary A., born 1891, the latter four siblings were all born in Hinckley, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 15, Brick Kiln Lane, Hinckley, Leics. In March 1901 Alfred was employed as a dyer’s office boy and was residing in the family home at 8, Brick Kiln Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Elizabeth, Lily, Tom, Mary, John, born 1892, James Frank, born 1894 and Gladys Alice, born 1899, the latter three siblings were all born in Hinckley, Leics., also residing with the family were his nephew, Arthur, born 1900 in Hinckley, Leics., and his cousin, Olive A. Bedford, born 1897 in Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 Alfred was employed as an office clerk and was residing in the family home at 92, Coventry Road, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father, now a coal carter, his mother and siblings, Louisa, Tom, John, James and Gladys, also residing with the family was his nephew Arthur, and a cousin Mabel Orton, born 1903 in Hinckley, Leics. Alfred died by drowning.
