He was the son of Arthur J. and Lizzie Whiston. The War Diary entry for the 20th January 1916 records. TRENCHES, WEST OF MONCHY. A blind shell penetrated a dug out and killed a NCO. In trench 82 a sentry reported having heard distinct sounds of mining.
