Percy William was born on the 11th September 1889 in Hinckley, Leics., he had a brother, Ernest F, born 1891 in Hinckley, Leics., in April 1891 they were residing at Regent Street, Hinckley, Leics, this being the family home of his grandparents, Noah Porter, a blacksmith, born 1843 in Salop and his wife Sarah Porter, born 1842 in Salop. In March 1901 Percy was residing in the family home of his grandparents at Regent Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his siblings, Ernest Frederick and Dorothy May, born 1898 in Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 Percy was employed as a clerk and was residing at 93, Rugby Road, Hinckley, Leics., this being the family home of his aunt, Alice Porter, a hosiery trade worker, born 1873 in Cheshire, together with his siblings, Ernest, a butcher, Dorothy, a hosiery cutter and Albert Steven, born 1910 in Hinckley, Leics. In the second quarter of 1912, Percy married Beatrice M. Richardson in the Leicester marriage registration district, they resided at 38, Clarendon Road, Hinckley, Leics. Percy enlisted on the 17th July 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 12th November 1917, joining his unit, the Nelson Battalion on the 24th November 1917 and serving with that unit until he was reported wounded and missing, later reported killed in action or died of wounds on the 30th December 1917.
