He was the husband of Mrs R. A. Pope. Other sources show his place of residence as 1, Manor Place, Hinckley, Leics. The War Diary for the 26th December recorded that the Battalion took over from the 2nd Bn. Sherwood Foresters at Wieltje left sector. Distribution C Coy B.11, 12, 13 front line. B Coy 2 platoons S line, 2 platoons X line. A Coy 2 platoons St. Jean, 2 platoons canal bank. D Coy canal bank. Machine Guns 2 Maxims, 1 Lewis front line, 1 X line, 1 St. Jean defences and English Farm, Bombers 8 posts. The entry for today reads as follows:- Occasional shelling. Bn. HQ and X line severely shelled for about 1 hour. B Coy 1 Sergeant accidentally killed by one of our latest joined recruits. Relieved by 9th Bn. Norfolk Regiment and returned by train to billets in Poperinghe in Rue des Furnes and convent Elverdinghe Road.
