He was the son of William and Mary E. Kerr, late of Priesthills Road, Hinckley, Leics. Other sources show his place of residence as 14, Castle Street, Dumfries, Scotland. The War Diary for today records that the Battalion were in Billets in Mazingarbe. At 2.20am the relief was complete and the Battalion were in Billets at Mazingarbe. At 11.15pm Operational Order 17/43 was issued relative to relief by us of the 14th Battalion Royal Montreal Regiment in Cite St Pierre night 22nd/23rd. Battalion bathed and paid out, moved from Mazingarbe 8.30 – 9.30pm. Casualties, other ranks nil return.
