He was the son of Thomas Stevens Headley, a domestic coachman, born 1867 in Enderby, Leics., and his wife Jane Headley (nee Farry, married in the 1st quarter of 1892 in the Hinckley, Leics. districtI), born 1865 in Burton Hastings, Warwks. Harold Thomas was born on the 14th April 1895 in Nuneaton, Warwks., in March 1901 the family home was at 50, Pool Bank Street, Nuneaton, Warwks. In April 1911 Harold was employed as an office boy and was residing in the family home at 31, John Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father, a domestic gardener, his mother a hosiery trade mender and his sister Gwendoline, a schoolgirl, born 1904 in Walford, Staffs. Harold enlisted into the Royal Marines on the 11th December 1915 in Warwick and was allocated the service number 14278. His medical examination recorded his height as 5 foot 3½ inches. He gave his date of birth as the 14th April 1895, he gave his trade or calling as assistant booking clerk and his religion as Church of England. He gave his father, Thomas Headley of 9, Holliers Walk, Hinckley, Leics., as his next of kin. His service record began when he was placed on the Army Reserve on the 12/12/15. Mobilised and posted to the Recruit Depot, Deal, Kent on the 30/11/16 -1/2/17. HMS Victory, Royal Marine Brigade, 2/2/17 -15/3/17. Embarked to join 1st Royal Marine Battalion in France, 16/3/17 – 29/10/17, when he died from wounds received in action.
