He was the son of Walter Faulkes, a hosiery trade worker, born 1863 in Hinckley, Leicestershire and his wife Sarah Faulkes, a hosiery trade worker, born 1864 in Hinckley. Albert Arthur was born in the 2nd quarter of 1884 in Hinckley, he had one sibling, a brother Charles, born 1887 in Hinckley, in April 1891 the family home was at Baines Lane, Hinckley, Leicestershire. In March 1901 Albert was employed as a shoe trade riveter and was residing in the family home at 26, Factory Road, Ten Foot Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire, together with his father a hosiery trade machinist, his mother a hosiery trade linker and his siblings, Charles, a hosiery trade warehouseman, William, born 1892 and Ada, born 1897, the latter two siblings were both born in Hinckley. In April 1911 Albert was absent from the family home at 79, Factory Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire, residing there was his father, a stoker, his mother, a hosiery trade linker and his siblings, Charles, a warehouseman, William a shoe trade finisher, Ada, a hosiery trade linker and Winifred, a schoolgirl, born 1904 in Hinckley, Albert was employed as a hosiery trade worker and was residing in the family home at 6, Chessher Street, Hinckley, Leicestershire, together with his wife Ellen Foulkes, a hosiery trade linker, born 1883 in Hinckley and their son Walter Frederick Foulkes, born 1910 in Hinckley. Albert was officially recorded at birth with the surname spelling of Faulkes, however in various documents during his life the surname has appeared as Faulks and also latterly as Foulkes, in fact his CWGC grave inscription gives the latter spelling. Albert died in hospital from tetanus.
