He was the son of John Thomas Carter a shoe trade pressman, born 1875 in Hinckley, Leics., and his wife Frances a hosiery trade winder, born 1875 in Hinckley, Leics. Percy was born in 1896 in Hinckley, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 55, Trinity Lane, Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 Percy was employed as a hosiery trade runner on and was residing in the family home at 14, Mansion Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his parents. Percy died from sunstroke. The War Diary for today records. R.S.M.’s parade at 5.30am. In the evening the Battn went for a route march in the direction of UMM-EL-HANNAH at 5.45pm. Temperature 113.5 degrees maximum, 76 degrees minimum.
