He was the son of Francis T. Butler a carpenter, born 1869 in Broad Marston, Glos., and his wife Ada, born 1863 in Hinckley, Leics. Stanley Frederick was born in 1897 in Hinckley, Leics., his siblings were, William G., born 1892, Nellie G., born 1896 and Doris M., born 1901, all his siblings were born in Hinckley, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 42, Charles Street, Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 Stanley was employed as an office boy and was residing in the family home at 42, Charles Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, William, Nellie, Doris and Winnie D., born 1902 in Hinckley, Leics. Other sources show his rank as Sergeant. The 2nd/4th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment ceased to exist after the 8th May 1918 being reduced to a training cadre, the final War Diary entry dated the 31st May 1918 records. ESTREE CAUCHEE. Lt. Col. Sir IAIN COLQUHOUN Bart. D.S.O. assumed command of Brigade. Captain G. B. OLIVER took over duties of Staff Captain.
