He was the son of John Glover Burchnall a hosiery warehouseman, born 1863 in Burton Overy, Leics., and his wife Alice Mary, born 1866 in Hinckley, Leics. John Edgar was born in 1894 in Hinckley, Leics., his siblings were Edith Rose M., born 1893, Francis Henry, born 1897, Alice Rose, born 1899 and Clare, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Hinckley, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 5, Leicester Road, Spiers Row, Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 John was employed as a printer’s apprentice and was residing in the family home at 51, Castle Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father, now a florist and nurseryman, his mother and siblings, Edith, Francis, Alice, Clare, George William, born 1902, Stephen, born 1904, Constance Mary, born 1906 and Margaret Mary, born 1909, the latter four siblings were all born in Hinckley, Leics.
