He was the son of Henry Bonser a carrier, born 1824 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and his wife Eliza Bonser (nee Randon, married q4 1875 in the Hinckley, Leics. district), born 1835 in Earl Shilton, Leics. William Henry was born in q1, 1878 in Earl Shilton, Leics., in April 1881 the family home was at Cake Lane, Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1891 William was residing in the family home at Cake Lane, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his father, a carrier and his mother. In March 1901 William was employed as an agricultural labourer and was residing in the family home at 44, Keats Lane, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his father now a cow keeper and his mother. In April 1911 William was employed as a farm waggoner and was residing at Hall’s Farm, Sharnford, Leics. William is recorded incorrectly on the St. Helen’s churchyard war memorial in Sharnford, Leics., as Brown, W.H.
On Thursday January 25th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “ROLL OF HONOUR” - “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” The following local casualties are reported under various dates. All are Private’s except where otherwise shown. The town shown against each soldiers name is the home of his next-of-kin. KILLED. KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. Bonser, 32544 W. H. (Earl Shilton).
