He was the son of William Blower a hosiery knitter, born 1860 in Hinckley, Leics., and his wife Ellen, born 1861 in Hinckley, Leics. Walter was born in 1897 in Hinckley, Leics., his siblings were William, born 1880, Lilla, born 1881, George, born 1882, Rose, born 1885, Charles, born 1887, Arthur, born 1889 and Ellen, born 1893 and, all his siblings were born in Hinckley, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 35, Manor Street, Hinckley, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy, Trinity. In April 1911 Walter was employed as a carpenter and was residing in the family home at 35, Manor Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Lilla, Ellen and Arthur, also residing with the family was his nephew, William Blower, born 1902 in Hinckley, Leics. His elder brother Arthur also fell in action. The War Diary for today records. HILL 37. Shelling not quite so heavy as previous days. Periods of comparative quiet. Back areas bombarded with high explosive and gas shells at night. 2nd Lt. L. ROWBATHAN died of wounds, 2nd Lt. S. W. G. TALLIS wounded.
