He was the son of Thomas Bass a Hosiery Warehouseman, born 1868 in Leicester and his wife Elizabeth, born 1869 in Burbage, Leicestershire. Harry was born in 1892 in Burbage, Leicestershire, his siblings were Stanley, born 1888, May, born 1890 and Celia, born 1897, all his siblings were born in Burbage, Leicestershire, in March 1901 the family home was at 3, Clarence Road, Hinckley. In April 1911 Harry was employed as a Hosiery Warehouseman and was residing in the family home at 22, Orchard Street, Hinckley, Leicestershire together with his parents and siblings, Stanley, May, Celia, Iris, born 1908 and Thomas, born 1909, both siblings being born in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
