He was the son of William Henry, a Coal Carter, born 1862 in Great Glen, Leics., and his wife Hannah, born 1862 in Great Glen, Leics. John William was born in 1898 in Great Glen, Leics., his siblings were Alice, born 1890, Ernest, born 1892, Fred, born 1894 and Ada, born 1895, all his siblings were born in Great Glen, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Burton Lane, Glen Magna, Great Glen, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Great Glen, St. Cuthbert. In April 1911 John was employed as a Hosiery Factory Runner On and was residing in the family home at Glen Magna, Great Glen, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Ernest, Fred and Ada.
