He was the son of Arthur Cooke a farm labourer, born 1865 in Gilmorton, Leics., and his wife Lucy Annie, born 1865 in Claverdon, Warwks. Leonard Percival Alfred was born in 1890 in Gilmorton, Leics., his siblings were Cecil George, born 1893, Elsie Annie, born 1894, Daisy W., born 1897 and Leonard Arthur, born 1899, all his siblings were born in Gilmorton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Red Lion Street, South Side, Gilmorton, Leics. In April 1911 Percival was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Gilmorton, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Daisy and Leonard. His younger brother Leonard Arthur fell in action. Percival had served four years and three months on active service.
