Harry Brewin enlisted in Colchester into the Royal Field Artillery on 02 March1898 as a gunner - 26584 Gunner Harry Brewin. He was posted to India from 1899 to 1909. At the outbreak of WW1 he was a Battery Sergeant Major. He was promoted to 2Lt in late 1914, then promoted in the field to Lt in 1916. He was then promoted to temporary Captain. He was mentioned in dispatches in on 4 January 1917 (London Gazette of 4 January 1917, page 208).
On 03 Jun 1919 (by now a substantive Captain) Captain Harry Brewin was appointed an "Officer of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire' (OBE) in recognition of "valuable services rendered in connection with military operations in France".
Harry retired from the British Army after the satisfactory cessation of hostilities on 08 Nov 1919 – although there is evidence that while living in Switzerland he rejoined the colours for a short period – possibly serving with the British Occupation Army Rhineland.
He emigrated to Australia in 1923 and died there in 1926
