He was the grandson of John Chamberlain a bricklayer’s labourer, born 1829 in Empingham, Rutland and his wife Susannah, born 1834 in Baston, Lincs. Charles Henry was born in 1891 in New Somerby, Lincs., he had one sibling, a sister Lily, born 1879 in Empingham, Rutland, in April 1891 he was residing in the family home of his grandparents at Main Street, Empingham, Rutland, also residing in the family home were his uncles, Harry, born 1872 and Charles, born 1875, both his uncles were born in Empingham, Rutland. In March 1901 Charles was residing in the family home at Main Street, Empingham, Rutland together with his grandparents. In April 1911 Charles was employed as a farm wagoner and was residing as a lodger at Exton Road, Empingham, Rutland.
