He was the son of Thomas Tebbutt, a gas works stoker, born 1870 in Littlethorpe, Leics., and his wife Eliza Tebbutt (nee Colver, married Q4 1891 in the Hinckley, Leics. district), born 1869 in Earl Shilton, Leics. George William, was a schoolboy and was born on the 20th August 1899 in Earl Shilton, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister, Mary Ann, a hosiery trade knitter, born 1893 in Earl Shilton, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at 45, Station Road, Earl Shilton, Leics. George enlisted on the 2nd October 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 2nd April 1918, joining his unit, the Hawke Battalion on the 7th April 1918 and serving with that unit until he was killed in action on the 25th August 1918.
