He was the son of William Swinfield, a shoe trade finisher, born 1868 in Huncote, Leics., and his wife Frances Swinfield (nee Knight, married Q3 1887 in the Hinckley, Leics. district), a shoe trade machinist, born 1867 in Earl Shilton, Leics. Clarence Isaac, was born on the 2nd June 1896 in Earl Shilton, Leics., his siblings were, Emma Elizabeth, born 1889, Sidney William, born 1890, William Thomas, born 1894 and Walter Cyril, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 95, Wood Street, Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1911 Clarence was employed as a shoe trade clicker and was residing in the family home at 95, Wood Street, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his father, now a general dealer, his mother assisting in the business and his siblings, Emma, a hosiery trade winder, Sidney, a boot trade riveter, William, a shop assistant in the family business and Walter a schoolboy. Clarence enlisted on the 21st August 1915 and embarked to join the Mediteranean Expeditionary Force on the 16th February 1916, joining his unit, the Drake Battalion on the 28th February 1916 and serving with this unit until he suffered shrapnel wound to his pelvis and was admitted to the 13th Corps Operating Station where he died of his wounds on the 19th October 1916.
The War Diary for the 19th October 1916 records: Working parties supplied for the line digging assembly trenches in no-mans land. 3 wounded.
