He was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Alfred Dawkins of Chapel Street, Barwell, Leics., and the husband of Clara Dawkins. The War Diary entry for the events from the 11th to the 12th November 1917 records. TRENCHES. On the night of the 11th/12th November the Battalion was relieved by the 8th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT and moved back to Brigade Support in RAILWAY DUGOUTS, ZILLEBEKE. “C” Company remaining at POLYGON BUTTE, at the disposal of the Officer Commanding 8th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT.
