He was the son of Josiah Coley a coal agent, born 1841 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1844 in Earl Shilton, Leics. George was born in 1880 in Earl Shilton, Leics., his siblings were, Kate, born 1874, Albert, born 1875 and Cassey J., born 1878, all his siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leics., in April 1881 the family home was at High Street, Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1891 George was a scholar and was residing at Wood Street, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his siblings Kate and Albert, this being the family home of his widowed paternal grandmother, Jane Coley, born 1818 in Leicestershire. In March 1901 George was residing at 3, Almeys Lane, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his sister Kate, this being the family home of his widowed aunt, Fanny Lee a shop keeper, born 1838 in Northamptonshire. In April 1911 George was employed as a wool dyer and was residing as a boarder at 48, William Street, Attleborough, Nuneaton, Warwks. In the October, November, December quarter of 1917, George married Maud M. Parsons in the Nuneaton, Warwickshire marriage registration district.
