He was the son of the late James Coe, and the stepson of George Trouch a boot trade riveter, born 1868 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and his wife Elizabeth Touch (nee Coe, nee Haynes), born 1870 in Scarborough, Yorks. James Arthur was born in 1891 in Earl Shilton, Leics., he had one sibling, a brother George William, born 1892 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and two half blood siblings, Kate M., Trouch, born 1900 and John Maurice Trouch, born 1901, both his half blood siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 5, Almeys Lane, Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1911 James was employed as a shoe trade pressman and was residing in the family home at Recreation View, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his step father and mother and sibling George and his half blood siblings, John Trouch and Sarah Elizabeth Trouch, born 1903 in Earl Shilton, Leics. His younger brother George William fell in action.
