John was a Shoe Clicker and was born in 1897 in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, his siblings were Ethel, born 1892, George, born 1894 and Sidney, born 1895, all his siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire. In April 1911 the family home was at 8, Gee's Row, High Street, Earl Shilton, Leicestershire. His elder brother Sidney also fell.
