He was the son of Charles Bailey a Blacksmith, born 1861 in Gilmorton, Leicestershire and his wife Susan, born 1862 in Cosby, Leicestershire. Albert was born in 1896 in Cosby, Leicestershire, his siblings were Charles, born 1891 in Cosby, Leicestershire, James, born 1893 in Cosby, Leicestershire, George, born 1898 in Thrussington, Leicestershire, Florence Ellen, born 1899 in Thrussington, Leicestershire, Maurice, born 1901 in Thrussington, Leicestershire and Leslie Harold, born 1905 in Thrussington, Leicestershire. In March 1901 the family home was at Ratcliffe Road, Thrussington, this being situated within the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy Trinity. In April 1911 Albert was a Bakers Apprentice and was residing at Main Street, Thurmaston, Leicestershire. On Friday May 18th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “THRUSSINGTON” – THE WAR.- Mr and Mrs Charles Bailey, of Ratcliff Road, have been notified from the War Office that their son Albert has been killed at the front, by the explosion of a shell. The gallant soldier was serving with the South Lancashire’s. He was only 21 years of age, and much sympathy is expressed with his parents in their sad bereavement. Last Saturday afternoon a muffled peal was rung in memory of the deceased. The following were the ringers, Treble, H. Hibbitt, second, C. Crowden, third, A. Tyers, fourth, Wm. Needham, tenor, P. Hardy (conductor).
