He was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Worthington. The War Diary for today records. (Morning Report) Right was heavily sniped till 12.00 mid night when all was quiet. Nothing to report about centre or left. In case of attack on centre suggest that the four haystacks near farm 600 yards in front be set alight by artillery in order to light up attacking enemy. Work done:- Damaged parapets repaired and communications continued also reserve trench in rear. Could we be supplied with planking and posts for overhead protection against weather, also more sandbags and wire. Left Coy SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS report that yesterday a number of GHURKAS were in an empty house in rear of his Coy with a large fire lit which O.C. Coy thinks might attract attention of enemy. Killed 1. Wounded and Sick 1. SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS casualties nil F.S. 15 and 561. Trenches LEICESTERSHIRE REGT 9/276. SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS 7/250. Ammunition 430. (Evening Report) No change on my right. Digging proceeding in most of the German trenches. They are now 50 yards off the south face of the farm enclosure. Underground sap is proceeding towards them from two different directions. On the left and left centre enemy have commenced a new trench each side of the natural ditch running into our parapet about 80 yards from our advance trench. A pom-pom opened this afternoon against this face firing single shots. If we had such an article on our side we would soon blow their loopholes and parapets down. O.C. SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS is very anxious for a searchlight.
