He was the son of David and Jane Scott of 12, Church Street, Burbage, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his trade or calling as Porter, he stated that he was unmarried and gave his next of kin as his father, David Scott of 16, Horsepool, Burbage, Leics., England. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 4 inches in height and had a chest measurement of 33 to 36 inches. His complexion was described as medium with blue eyes and brown hair. It was noted that on his left forearm he had the following tattoos, horsehead in horseshoe, whip and jockey’s cap. Heart and clasped hands. He gave his religion as Presbyterian.
