He was the son of John Chamberlain a hosiery trade trimmer, born 1872 in Burbage, Leics., and his wife Mary Elizabeth, born 1872 in Burbage, Leics. Cyril James was born in 1892 in Burbage, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister Edith Emma, born 1891 in Burbage, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 25, Church Street, Burbage, Leics. In April 1911 Cyril was employed as a hosiery trade worker and was residing in the family home at 14, Strutt Road, Burbage, Leics., together with his parents and sister Edith.
