He was the son of Thomas Campton a blacksmith, born 1856 in Burbage, Leics., and his wife Martha Mary, born 1860 in Lubenham, Leics. Thomas was born in 1895 in Burbage, Leics., his siblings were, Ethel, born 1883, Elizabeth, born 1888, Mabel, born 1891, Daisy, born 1893, Christopher, born 1898 and Francis, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Burbage, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 8, Church Street, Horsepool, Burbage, Leics. In April 1911 Thomas was employed as a shoe trade clicker and was residing in the family home at Offenbach Cottage, Burbage, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Ethel, Henry, Lizzie, Mabel, Daisy, Christopher, Frank and Ella, born 1907 in Burbage, Leics. The 8th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment was reduced in June 1918, and disbanded in July 1918. The surplus was transferred to the 7th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and the Nucleus to the 14th Battalion Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment).
