He was the son of John Barnes a Coachsmith, born 1861 in Northampton and his wife Ellen, Born 1863 in Northampton. Frank was born in 1898 in Burbage, Leicestershire, his siblings were Emily F., born 1883, Charles, born 1885, William, born 1887, Phoebe E., born 1888, Walter, born 1889, Arthur, born 1891, Margaret Bertha, born 1893, John, born 1894 and Nellie Edith, born 1896, the latter nine siblings were all born in Northampton, Harry, born 1900 and Elizabeth May, born 1901, the latter two siblings were born in Burbage, Leicestershire. In March 1901 the family home was at 11, Sketchley Road, Burbage, Leicestershire. In April 1911 Frank was employed as a Hosiery Worker and was residing with his parents and siblings, William, Walter, Margaret, John, Nellie, Harry and Elizabeth in the family home at 12, Occupation Road, Burbage, Leicestershire. His elder brother Charles died of wounds.
