He was the son of Amos Blockley a quarryman blocker, born 1869 in Sutton in the Elms, Leics., and his wife Mary Elizabeth, a Griswold knitter, born 1872 in Cosby, Leics. Arthur was born in 1892 in Primethorpe, Leics., his siblings were Annie Mary, born 1889, Harry, born 1893, Herbert, born 1896, Ernest, born 1898 and Evelyn, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Primethorpe, Leics. In March 1901 the family home was at Main Road, Broughton Astley, Primethorpe, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Mary. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a stone quarry labourer and was residing in the family home at Sutton in the Elms, Broughton Astley, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Annie, Harry, Herbert, Ernest, Evelyn, Violet, born 1904, Lilian, born 1906, Mildred, born 1907, Sidney, born 1910 and an unnamed female baby, born 1911, the latter five siblings were all born in Broughton Astley, Leics. His younger brother Henry also fell. The War Diary entry for the 14th April 1917 records. OUTPOST LINE, CROISELLES. Morning passed quietly, in the evening the 2nd WORCESTERSHIRE REGT, 33rd Division, relieved the Battalion. Relief complete at 4.30am. At 8.00pm the enemy shelled sunken road in T.18c . and T.18.d. very heavily with 5.9’s and 4.2’s causing several casualties.
